Grief and the Workplace

Most people don’t realize this, but grief isn’t just a personal experience — it’s a workplace issue.

According to Forbes, anxiety and depression — often triggered or intensified by grief — cost the global economy $1 trillion every year in lost productivity. And according to CDC‑based data, unsupported grief alone costs U.S. companies up to $225.8 billion annually.

Grief doesn’t stay at home. It walks into the office with us. It affects focus, energy, communication, decision‑making, and emotional regulation.

Employees aren’t broken — they’re grieving. And grief is not linear.

This is why I created Grief is Messy: Sorting Out the Sorrow — to support individuals and the organizations they work in.

If your company wants to:

✨ Reduce burnout ✨ Improve employee well‑being ✨ Support staff through life’s hardest moments ✨ Build a more compassionate workplace culture

…a grief‑informed coaching session or workshop can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re an HR leader, manager, or business owner who wants to support your team in a deeper way, I’d love to talk.

Let’s build workplaces where people don’t have to pretend they’re okay.
